INDORE: Around 325- 350 tonne e-waste, more than 18 per cent from a year ago, is expected to get disposed and recycled in the financial year 2023 ending in March led by increase in disposal from offices, establishments and households. The Madhya Pradesh police is also contemplating to dispose of legacy e-waste from their offices and godowns accumulated over the years. Around 275 tonne e-waste had reached the disposal facility in the financial year 2022, according to the e-waste recycler registered with control board from indore.
Fazal Husain, a registered e-waste recycler with pollution control board from Indore said, “This year we are anticipating some jump in collection of e-waste in Indore though the numbers would not be able to meet the desired levels but increase in disposal from offices, government departments and households are expected to lift recycling this year.”
As per the new E-waste (Management) Rules, 2022, that shall come into force from the April 1, 2023, 106 items under various electrical, electronic and batteries among others fall into e-waste. Some of the common e-waste that is being disposed mostly is computer, laptop, wire, cable, television, air conditioners, mobile and switch, panel and telecommunication machines among others.
As per experts and environmentalists, an estimated over 4,000 tonne e-waste is generated in Indore every year and most e-waste goes to the unorganized sector that pulls out metals and other precious items using unscientific methods.
